Brief Chronicle of the Institute
- April 1969
- Establishment of the Departament for Statistical Theory of Condensed Systems (STeCS) at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Academy of Sciences of the UkrSSR. Historically it was the first departament of the Institute. Head of departament - Igor Yukhnovskii.
- March 1980
- Establishment of the “Statistical Physics” Division of the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Academy of Sciences of USSR in L'viv. It consisted of three departaments: STeCS (Head – I. R. Yukhnovskii), Theory of Solutions, (Head - M. F. Holovko), Quantum Statistics (Head – I. O. Vakarchuk).
- September 1990
- The Institute for Condensed Matter Physics (ICMP) of Academy of Sciences of UkrSSR was founded. It consisted of seven departaments and three laboratories. The founder and the first director of the institute – Igor Yukhnovskii.
- September 1992
- UARNet – Ukrainian Academic and Research Network project had been launched. Later (in 1995) it transformed into a separate Laboratory of information technology and computer networks.
- February 1993
- The first in Ukraine connection to global network Internet via dial-up link had been done under the UARNet project.
- July 1993
- The first issue of interagency compilation “Condensed Matter Physics” was published. In December 1994 it became a journal “Condensed Matter Physics” published in English language. Scince 1997 it is published quarterly.
- September 1993
- The joint chair of ICMP of NAS of Ukraine and Ivan Franko State University of L'viv was established. The chair of physics of condensed matter worked until 1995.
- May 1995
- Within ICMP there was opened a Defence committee on Ph. D.'s and Habilitations. Today the committee deal with disserations in three specialities: 01.04.02 – theoretical physics, 01.04.07 – solid state physics, 01.04.24 - colloid physics (the first in Ukraine to deal with this speciality).
- May 1997
- The first “Ising lectures” took place – Annual seminar on current problems of phase transitions and critical phenomena orientated mostly towards young scientists.
- March 1999
- On the basis of the Laboratory of information technology and computer networks, State enterprise “Research and Telecommunication centre “Ukrainian Academic and Research Network” of Institute For Condensed Matter Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was founded (Director I. A. Protsykevych).
- May 2000
- Newly formed Scientific Council for liquid state physics of NAS of Ukraine started its work. Later on in 2004 it was reorganized to the Scientific Council for the “Soft matter physics” within the Department of physics and astronomy of NAS of Ukraine. The ICMP of NAS of Ukraine is the main institution of the Council .
- May 2001
- The nationwide school-seminar and contest of the young scientists operating in statistical physics and condensed matter theory had been launched. Scince that time it is held annualy in ICMP in late May – early June.
- December 2001
- The first in NAS of Ukraine cluster for numerical calculations was launched (16 processors and working power of 12.5 Gflops). After renovation in 2004, 2006 and 2008 the cluster remains one of the most powerful in Ukraine (116 processors and the peak power of 1,3 Tflops).
- January 2005
- At the Institute there was opened the chair for ingeneering material science and applied physics of Lviv Polytechnic National University (Head – I. M. Mryglod). Starting from 2007 ICMP of NAS of Ukraine is a part of the Research and Training Centre with the status of Departament for training of the Lviv Polytechnic National University and Western Scientific Centre of NAS and MES of Ukraine.
- August 2005
- The journal "Condensed Matter Physics" is included in the Philadelphia List and several other services of Thomson Institute for Scientific Information (Thomson ISI).
- February 2007
- ICMP cluster is connected to the GRID network of academic institutions in Ukraine.
- May 2007
- Annual scholarship of academic of NAS of Ukraine I.R.Yukhnovskii is established.
- June 2008
- Journal of "Condesed Matter Physics" is the first Ukrainian scientific periodical that received impact factors of Thomson Institute for Scientific Information.
- January 2009
- At the joint meeting of the Defence Committee of ICMP and jury of the Henri Poincare University (Nancy, France), the first international defense of thesis took place. At the same time, a degree of Candidate of Sciences in “theoretical physics” and the title of Doctor of Physics and Chemistry of the Henri Poincare University was conferred.
- March 2009
- A branch of the Chair of Applied Mathematics of Lviv Polytechnic National University was set up within the Institute (Head of the branch - T. M. Bryk).
