Book presentation "Horizons of science. vol. II: Histories of time."

Yu. Holovatch, Ya. Hrytsak, B. Novosyalyj (editors). Horizons of science. vol. II: Histories of time. Lviv, UCU Publishing House, 2020, 176 p. ISBN 978-617-7637-22-5 (in Ukrainian).

This book is the second in a series of essays based on lectures given at the monthly seminar "Horizons of Science". The book contains a selection of articles devoted to the topic of time - as understood by various disciplines: astronomy, physics, theology, philosophy, psychology, sociology, linguistics, semiotics, history. The concept of time is difficult to formalize, even within the framework of one discipline. How our present understanding of time was formed and whether a common language between representatives of different sciences is possible while discussing this notion - these and similar questions are being sought by the authors of this book.

XIX Workshop and Competition for young researchers in the field of statistical physics and condensed matter theory

The 19th Workshop will take place in Lviv at the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics on June 13–14, 2019. Its program will include invited lectures of top experts in statistical physics and condensed matter theory from Ukraine, short communications of young researchers and contributed talks of Competition applicants. The 19th Workshop is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Lviv Department for Statistical Theory of Condensed States of the Institute for Theoretical Physics (May 1969), which gave origin to the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics.

Additional information may be obtained on the Workshop website: http://www.icmp.lviv.ua/konkurs/

III CONIN workshop “Systems with competing electrostatic and short-range interactions”

The 3rd CONIN workshop “Systems with competing electrostatic and short-range interactions”
will be held in Lviv (Ukraine) on July 1–2 2019. The workshop is organized as a part of the Horizon 2020 RISE project "Effects of confinement on inhomogeneous systems" (CONIN) which involves six research institutions in Europe and South America. The main topics covered in the workshop are the self-assembly behavior of systems with short-range attraction and long-range repulsions and ionic liquids.

5-th Conference on Statistical Physics: Modern Trends & Applications

The 5-th Conference “Statistical Physics: Modern Trends and Applications” will be held on July 3–6, 2019, in Lviv, Ukraine. This Conference continues a tradition of regular international meetings in the statistical physics in Ukraine, established in the 1970-ies and renewed by “Statistical Physics” (Lviv, 2005; Kharkiv, 2006; Lviv, 2009 and Lviv, 2012).

The 5-th Conference “Statistical Physics: Modern Trends and Applications” is organized by the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Lviv, Ukraine) and is dedicated to the 110-th anniversary of Academician M.M.Bogolyubov (1909–1992) and to the 50-th anniversary of the Lviv Department for Statistical Theory of Condensed States of the Institute for Theoretical Physics, which gave origin to the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics.
